Shankle Tabbed As Big 12 Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas - For the third time in her career, Baylor women's tennis junior Blair Shankle has been named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week, league officials announced Thursday.

The Dallas, Texas, product was dominant in two singles victories over ranked conference foes this weekend. She helped BU to a 4-2 win over Oklahoma on Friday by cruising past No. 110 Lily Miyazaki, 6-0, 7-5, at the No. 1 spot, after teaming with Kiah Generette to post a 6-1 victory in doubles over Miyazaki and Emma Devine at the top of the lineup.

Despite a 4-1 team loss to 17th-ranked Oklahoma State, Shankle recorded BU's only point of the day with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of 33rd-ranked Katarina Adamovic on Sunday in No. 1 singles. Earlier on Friday, Shankle had won her doubles matche in a contest against Lamar, giving her a 2-0 record in singles and 2-0 mark in doubles for the weekend.

Shankle has won six-straight decisions in singles and is now ranked No. 76 with a 12-4 overall record and a 10-2 mark in dual-match play.

It is Baylor's 35th Big 12 honor in the 20-year history of the Big 12 Conference. Shankle was previously recognized on April 7, 2015 and March 17, 2015.

BU has now won at least one player of the week honor in 14 consecutive seasons, dating back to 2003.

Shankle shares this week's honor with Texas' Breaunna Addison

In its next match, the 51st-ranked Baylor women's team travels to play No. 28 TCU Friday in Fort Worth, Texas, at 2:30 p.m.
