Lonardi Wins Edith Cummings Munson Golf Award

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. ÃÆÃ' ÂĒÃÆ ÂĒ' ÂŽ" Baylor women's golfer Laura Lonardi was named recipient of the 2016 Edith Cummings Munson Golf Award on Friday, as announced by the Women's Golf Coaches Association.
The award is given annually by the WGCA to the Women's Golf Division I student-athlete who is an upper classman and both a WGCA All-American Scholar and a WGCA All-American. Lonardi is the 25th honoree since the award was first given in 1989, and she's the third award winner representing the Big 12 Conference, joining Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin (2005) and Emma Zackrisson (2002). In addition to being the first winner from Baylor, Lonardi is also the first award winner from any program in Texas.
A donation of $5,000 from the Curtis & Edith Cummings Munson Foundation will be made in honor of Lonardi to Baylor's general scholarship fund.
A Verona, Italy, native, Lonardi is a four-time WGCA All-American Scholar and was named a WGCA Second-Team All-American following her 2015-16 senior season. She was also chosen as the Big 12 Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year in each of the last two seasons, and she won the 2016 NCAA Elite 90 Award as the golfer with the highest GPA among those to earn berths in the NCAA Women's Golf Championship.
Lonardi recorded a 3.96 cumulative GPA on her way to earning degrees in both Applied Mathematics and Statistics. She earned All-America honors after recording six top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments as a senior, and she led the team with a 72.39 stroke average. She finished her Baylor career with the second-best stroke average in program history at 74.12, and her 72.39 stroke average this season was the second-best single-season mark in school history.
