ST. HELENA, Calif. ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor men's tennis players
Jimmy Bendeck and
Constantin Frantzen both picked up singles wins Friday at the Napa Valley Tennis Classic at the Meadowood Napa Valley Resort.
Bendeck got past USC's Riley Smith, 6-4, 7-6(5). Meanwhile, Frantzen downed Tulsa's Dominic Bechard in a three-set thriller, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(3).
Baylor's two other singles players both came up short in their first matches at the event. Bjoern Petersen dropped a three-set decision to 61st-ranked Billy Griffith of Cal, 6-7(5), 6-3, 7-5, while 54th-ranked Max Tchoutakian lost 7-6(4), 6-3 to Cal's Florian Lakat, who is ranked No. 13 in the country.
In doubles, the Bears lost both of their matches by 6-3 scores. First, Bendeck and Petersen suffered a setback to Tulsa's Bechard and Francois Kellerman. Meanwhile, Frantzen and Tchoutakian lost to USTA Juniors Matthew Fenty and Lukas Grief.

The second day of the Napa Valley Tennis Classic ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" hosted by Cal ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" begins at 12:30 p.m. CT. All four Bears will face a highly ranked a USTA Junior player in singles action. Meanwhile, doubles will start at 3 p.m.
