BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
Opening statementà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"They have length on the perimeter, they have a ball-handler that runs the show, they have size inside and athleticism. They guarded us. They made everything we tried to do difficult. I was proud that we made our free throws. I thought we had a hard time defending their drives and transition baskets."
On defensive playà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It is hard to guard anybody one-on-one. What we didn't do well today from our perspective is that I felt like we were still in our defense from Iowa State and we were all worried about the three ball. There was no flow from the secondary defender coming over to help. We weren't very good helping each other."
On transition playà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We got up by double figures a couple times, then we would give up and-one baskets in transition. That starts with Kristy. The point guard is responsible for getting back unless she shoots the layup and we talked to her about that."
On execution down the stretchà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Late in the game there were some things that we did well. You want the right people shooting and we did do it. I thought late in the game we made some defensive stops. When you have a tight game it is usually those one or two things that are the difference in the game. I thought it was a great game. I love it. It was a very good basketball game. You saw 10 girls on that floor play tough, man-to-man defense."
Senior Nina Davis
On play in the second halfà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"The game was pretty close throughout. We needed someone to step up and get some rebounds. We were struggling a little bit. I just wanted to step up and give us a spark to help us win."
On winning in a tight gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Sometimes it can show things that we need to work on such as help defense, communication, and getting back on defense. Games like this will help us down the road. The tournament is right around the corner. Close games like this one are what we need down the stretch."
Senior Alexis Jones
On defending their dribble driveà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It was difficult. There were some times that they drove past me. It is something that I will have to go back and take care of."
WEST VIRGINIA POSTGAME QUOTES
West Virginia Head Coach Mike Carey
On difference between this game and the game in West Virginiaà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We played hard. It's a shame. I told the players after the game here, 'I'm disappointed. We are expected to win, alright?' We just didn't execute, they executed better than we did down the stretch, but we played hard. We have had several games where we haven't played hard, and it's a shame because you saw at times we can be as good as anybody and we've just got to continue to play hard."
On takeaways from this gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Well, we wanted to beat them. We don't take nothing from it other than we didn't execute down the stretch and gave up about three or four offensive rebounds that cost us and we missed a couple layups. I think we had an opportunity, but again, give Baylor a lot of credit. They executed better than we did down the stretch, they really did."
West Virginia Junior Forward Teana Muldrow
On if she felt as if they could have won this gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Yeah, I felt that way. But we just let some possessions go that we shouldn't have. But going into it we just didn't execute like we should have."
