Lecomte Named Big 12 MBB Newcomer of the Week

IRVING, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor junior guard Manu Lecomte has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Men's Basketball Newcomer of the Week, as voted on by a panel of media members and announced Monday by the conference office.
It was Lecomte's third Big 12 weekly award of the season and the second time he was named Newcomer of the Week. Lecomte was previously honored with the newcomer award in the season's first week on Nov. 14, and he was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Dec. 5.
Lecomte joins Jo Lual-Acuil Jr., who was named Newcomer of the Week on Dec. 19, to give the Bears three newcomer honors in the same season for the fifth time in program history. The school record is four newcomer awards during the 2012 season, and the Bears won the honor three times in 2002, 2010 and 2011.
Lecomte is one of 21 players in program history to win the league's Newcomer of the Week award, and those players have combined to earn the recognition 33 times, with 26 of those coming in the last 13 years under Scott Drew.
A Brussels, Belgium, native, Lecomte led Baylor to a 76-50 win in its Big 12 opener at Oklahoma on Friday. He posted 14 points, a game-high four assists, two steals and zero turnovers in 24 minutes played.
Baylor's 26-point win was the largest margin of victory by any team playing at Oklahoma since Kansas won by 31 points on Feb. 5, 1963. The Bears also held the Sooners to their lowest point total in a home game during the Lon Kruger era.
Lecomte made 5-of-8 field goal attempts, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. He now ranks fourth in the Big 12 with 5.3 assists per game, sixth with a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio and 10th with 1.9 3-pointers made per game.
Kansas' Landen Lucas was named Big 12 Player of the Week after posting 15 points and 17 rebounds in a win at TCU.
With the win over Oklahoma, Baylor improved to 13-0 and climbed to No. 2 in the AP Top 25, the highest ranking in program history. The Bears will put that ranking on the line with a pair of home games this week, taking on Iowa State at 7 p.m. CT Wednesday and Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. Saturday.
