Oct. 9, 2017 WACO, Texas - Baylor volleyball garnered its highest RPI ranking in program history, earning the No. 23 spot in the standings released by the NCAA on Monday afternoon.
The No. 23 ranking surpasses the previous program high of No. 30, which the Bears first achieved on Dec. 19, 2009 and then again on Oct. 12, 2015 - head coach Ryan McGuyre's first season in Waco.
With the best record through 19 games since 2009, Baylor (15-4, 5-1 Big 12) has successfully navigated through a tough non-conference schedule and is entering the second half of Big 12 play.
Aided by an 9-1 record at home, with the only loss in the Ferrell Center coming at the hands of then-No. 15 Florida State in the season opener, the Bears have been lifted to the higher ranking by quality wins against top-RPI ranked teams.
BU has chalked up eight wins over RPI top-100 teams, including Iowa State (18), BYU (19), Washington State (31), LSU (40), TCU (49), West Virginia (53), Texas State (95) and Texas Tech (96).
Baylor checks in as the fourth-ranked team in the Big 12 behind Texas (6), Kansas (12), and Iowa State (18).
BU's only four losses on the year have all come from top-70 RPI teams, dropping matches against Texas (6), Florida State (28), Hawai'i (51) and College of Charleston (70).
Baylor has a midweek bye before traveling to face Kansas State Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Ahearn Fieldhouse in Manhattan, Kan.
