Opening statement
"The First half we shoot 56 percent and everything is looking good. The second half we shoot 25 percent and things aren't looking good. Going into the game we had so much respect for Wisconsin and what they've achieved for the last 17, 19 years, whatever it is that they've gone to the NCAA Tournament. We knew they wouldn't go away. I'm pleased that we had enough poise in the last four minutes to hold them off and finish the game because we really played a great first half. We played a pretty good 10 minutes in the second half, but then we couldn't buy a bucket for a while.
On playing Creighton and Marcus Foster:
"Coach McDermott's done a great job with him. I thought coach [Bruce} Webber did a good job with him. It looks like he's trimmed down and a lot faster than he was in the Big 12. He always had great game's against us in the Big 12, so we know what he's capable of. Its going to be a fast paced game. We like to get out and go. We got a six second break and they got a seven second break, so it shows you how fast they are.
On second half shooting and late FTS:
"We got the right guy to the free throw line. Manu [Lecomte] was 13-for-15 and that's what you expect from your senior point guard. The good thing about Manu is if he is not scoring, he is a point guard. If they put two on him, he does a great job finding someone else. He did a great job of getting Jo [Lual-Acuil Jr.] off to a great start early and helped him get that 19 and 10 because he was so effective with getting him the ball early.
On playing zone against Creighton:
"Honestly, I didn't get a chance to see the game yet, so I'll know a lot more come tomorrow. I know Creighton's got a great turnout here. It's a great game for us. Normally when we come for the Big 12 Tournament, Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State have a lot of fans up here, so this will prepare us for what we will see later on. We know its two very good teams. I have a lot of respect for Coach McDermott, so we know we will be a better team after tomorrow's game.
Manu Lecomte
On three with foul:
"I thought it was a good play. We kind of struggled in the second half against a really good team, but we made some really tough plays defensively down the stretch and then knocking down free throws."
WISCONSIN POSTGAME QUOTES Greg Gard
Opening Statement:
"If we could bottle the last 10-12 minutes and have that type of competitiveness and fight ad execution and following of the game plan, then we would have been in a much better position tonight. I've learned things about our guys through that 40 minutes of who I need to have on the floor. Saw some good things down the stretch. As they say, if you want to get out of a hole, stop digging. By the time we time stopped digging and were able to fight our way back, we got it to a two point game and we foul [Manu] Lecompte on the three-point shot where there was a mix up on a screen or got too much space on us and you're fouling one of the best free throw shooters in the country. I was happy with some of the combinations I saw down the stretch in terms of the battle and the willingness to put things on the line and get us back into the game. There are things we have to figure out earlier in the game in terms of combinations, following what we talked about and play better during that 25-30 minutes. Its another learning experience for our guys and we've got to continue to grow."
On start of game's and player's understanding:
"We're immature in a lot of areas. It's not only younger guys, because one of my hardest competitors is a freshman. It's not necessarily labeled to youth. It's based on personality and mindset and approach. Those are the things as a coaching staff that we have to continue to learn and we are. The one benefit of playing this type of schedule; we are finding out real fast, against some pretty good teams and players, who's ready for this and who's not quite there yet. The guys that are ready, we have got to continue to have those combinations on the floor and the guys who are not quite ready, we have got to continue to work with them and have them take steps forward."
On Davison's return:
"He's a tough one. I haven't talked to the doctors or trainers yet about what went on with his shoulder, but I'm not surprised given his level of competitiveness and how he battles. I wasn't surprised that he was there and wanted to come back in. I had to ask, is he ok to go, because I he's one of those guys that would sneak back in on me before I could say its ok."
Ethan Happ
On team's mood during comeback:
"It's what we need to do to start the game. We don't have the luxury of having guys we've been around for a lot of games like we've had the last couple years. We need to get guys to realize, myself included, it's gotta be a dog fight from the very start and that's what we turned it into was just scrapping, getting all the loose ball and working on the offensive glass. That has to be all 40 minutes and not just the last 10.
On leading:
"I don't just lead by example. We get together in huddles and I'm vocal there and those are some of the sentiments I try to pass along. That its not gonna come easy for us. Its gotta be a dog fight every game."
Greg Gard
On 00:
"We were trying to take away some of the high-low and clog the paint as much as we could and see what was gonna happen. He hit some big shots early. Making the shot is one thing, but the confidence it generated with him and with their team as they got off to that start."
On UCLA:
"They are another good team. As a I just told the team in the locker room, her we go again. Another really good team that we've got to get ready for in less than 24 hours. We will have to see what we learned from tonight. Can we take steps forward? Where can we grow? Another good team we are going to have to face."
On lineup:
"We always evaluate that. That's not ruled out ever. We'll look at matchups and I'll go back and I'll go back and look through the film in depth at what I thought I saw live action and makes some decisions from there. I'm not ruling out that there could be some changes."
