Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On Kalani Brown's dominance ÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬ ¦
"Kalani, you just look at her field goal percentage on the year, she's not missing many shots. We're shooting the ball very well now as a team. Now, 2-for-12 from three is not very good, but then I looked at Kalani's rebounds and I thought, 'three rebounds?!' Then I said, 'well Cox is hogging it, so she can't get any missed shots.' Cox is in there helping her this year. Kalani is going to learn real quick about what conditioning is, and it's not something I can do every day in practice. You can only do so much with nine players, but I hate that Trinity Oliver has a torn ACL and is done for the year. You don't make excuses. I've been to a Final Four with eight players. You just play. I know when I was a player, I wanted to play every minute. They're all going to have opportunities and chances."
On Kristy Wallace's performance quarterÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬ ¦
"I thought this kid right here set the tone for our basketball team. Kristy Wallace, no turnovers, almost played 40 minutes in the game, almost had a triple-double. She didn't try to do too much. She made the right passes. She made hustle plays. She may have had her finest game in her career at Baylor today."
On the energy at the start of the gameÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬ ¦
"It was. I thought the crowd was great. Kudos to marketing at Baylor. They did a good job at getting people here. I thought our fans yesterday lined up in the practice facility, we had to turn them down. That promo we did, we had to close the door so that Stanford could practice."
Junior Kalani Brown
On what she saw that allowed her to dominateÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬ ¦
"I didn't think that they would play behind. I thought that they were more of a three-quarter team, so when they did play behind, I thought, 'wow, take advantage of it.' Even with some things that they did is they call something called sandwich where they put someone in front and someone behind. I was trying to find ways to get open, so it took me a few plays to figure it out. As we went I was just going, trying to figure out their defenses."
Senior Kristy Wallace
On the strong start to the gameÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬ ¦
"We started off really well. We came out ready to play. We knew the scout, and we knew what to do. We just had to execute. We were able to get out there and run. The big girls were finishing. They let big girls shoot at the top of the key, and they were just executing that, so credit to the team. They did a really good job."
STANFORD POSTGAME QUOTES
Stanford Head Coach Tara VanDerveer
Opening StatementÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬ ¦
"I'm really proud of our young players and how they battled. Baylor has an experienced, very well coached, big and highly-skilled team. This was a very big task for us, and I think that besides the first quarter where we really got buried we stayed with Baylor. We had no answer for Kalani Brown; she pretty much had her way in the paint. Otherwise I feel we can learn from this and use it to get better."
On if shooting so many threes in the first quarter was part of the game planÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬ ¦
"The first quarter was very disappointing. We have an extremely young team who is just learning how to play and this early season has been baptism by fire. The better team beat us clearly and we need to learn from this and have a better shot selection."
On Kaylee Johnson and Alanna Smith getting in early foul troubleÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬ ¦
"It is really disappointing. Fouling out in 12 minutes is unacceptable. It really hurts when your two most experienced players get in foul trouble early. We are going to evaluate our starting lineup and look at people and who is going to give us the best chance to do what we need to do. We really just need to figure out who is going to go out there and get things done."
