BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On winning her 500th gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"This is about these kids. I'm very humbled, that was a lot of people who put in a lot of time, money and effort to do what they did and that's as classy as it gets. But it's about them, their championship, and we're going to enjoy their championship."
On winning seven Big 12 championships in a rowà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"How about that? It's because of these kids. They understand when they come here, this program is about championships and maintaining a level of excellence that's elite. It's never easy, I know people think it is, but it's not. There's an expectation level that some kids can't handle, and these players come here and they buy into this system. It's all about what they do."
On starting all of the seniorsà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Sometimes in senior classes you have seniors that are role players. These kids are big-time players, all four of them. They played major roles in our program and I wanted to put them in the second half one last time so they could get a standing ovation when I subbed for them, and it was awesome that they could end their career here, regular season, with a championship and celebrate it with all of their fans. They also have to rest because we have a quick turnaround Monday night. I felt that everybody, not just the seniors, did something to ensure that we could follow the path that we wanted, which was to rest players but also get a championship."
Senior F Nina Davis
On clinching the Big 12 titleà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We always had confidence in ourselves. We were tied with Texas at one point in time and they're a great team, but we weren't focused on that. We were focused on ourselves and taking it game by game and just trying to get a clinch today, which just so happens to be the outright. We're just worried about Oklahoma now and trying to finish it out strong."
On staying focused for the NCAA tournamentà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We just live in the moment. Today's all about that, yes we've been here, we've done it before, but each year's different. There's different players and that's the most exciting part. Seeing the freshmen excited by the confetti, seeing Natalie's eyes going, looking like a little kid in a candy store and you just live in today. But once tomorrow starts, it's another day. We're going to focus on Oklahoma and then the Big 12 and after that, onto our bigger goals."
Sophomore P Kalani Brown
On Coach Mulkey's 500th winà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I think it's great. It's tradition. Great coaches get great accolades. I'm not surprised, I'm proud of coach and I'm proud to be a part of it."
On being part of the 500th win and the seventh Big 12 titleà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Being so close to sharing and clinching the title outright means something to me. Playing the way I did Monday and coming through for my team, I'm glad I was able to help. It was a team effort, we stayed focused and took it one game at a time and now we're celebrating."
TEXAS TECH POSTGAME QUOTES
Head Coach Candi Whitaker
On poor shooting night:
"Yeah, you can't if you're going to have a chance you have to make shots, make open shots. No matter who you are playing in this league you have to be able to make open shots. There is no secret."
On Kalani Brown's performance:
"She is enormous and good and they all are and they just keeping coming at you and they are really unique because of their ability to score in the paint and to offensive board it. When you don't have the size and depth to battle it they win in that category every night out if you can't match that, and they're really good and you have to give them that. And what Kalani has done from a freshman to sophomore year is incredible and I think it's a lot for young kids to look at, I mean what she is committed to getting herself in shape and I don't know if I have ever seen such a change in one year."
On resting players when game out of reach for upcoming home game:
"That's one of the reasons when the game was out of reach you see our numbers as far as minutes were even, we had to be smart if we were going to have a chance and we needed to play a lot of people and give other people opportunities, and we tried to rest as much as we could when we felt like it was out of reach."
On being worried about matching Baylor's intensity in terms of what was at stake:
"I mean I don't think that was a concern for me I mean whether Baylor is playing for a conference championship or not its Baylor and they are very talented they are very good, I think they are a mature enough team with all those seniors on their team, they understand opportunity and not to let an upset happen at this phase of the game."
