March 25, 2017 WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" The No. 15 Baylor women's tennis team (13-4) will travel to Lubbock to face No. 9 Texas Tech (15-3) on Sunday, March 26. First serve is set for 1 p.m. (CT).
In the most recent meeting, the then-ranked No. 57 Lady Bears dropped a 4-2 decision to the then-ranked No. 12 Red Raiders on April 10, 2016. Baylor leads the all-time series against Texas Tech 26-13 and has won five of the last seven matchups.
Texas Tech has notched eight victories over ranked teams this season including then-ranked No. 21 Arizona State (4-3), then-ranked No. 9 Vanderbilt (4-2), then-ranked No. 3 Pepperdine (4-0), then-ranked No. 22 TCU (4-0), then-ranked No. 29 Rice (4-0), then-ranked No. 19 Kansas (4-2), then-ranked No. 48 Northwestern (5-2) and No. 22 Texas (4-2). They boast a pair of ranked singles players including No. 17 Gabriela Talaba and No. 56 Felicity Maltby. They also have a couple of ranked doubles duos in No. 36 Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici and No. 73 Gabriela Talaba and Felicity Maltby.
The Lady Bears have won six of their eight matches with victories over then-ranked No. 21 UCLA (4-3) and then-ranked No. 47 Oklahoma. They also performed at a high level at the BPN Paribas Open in Indian Wells where they defeated USC (4-1), competing as the only collegiate women's tennis match of the weekend. Baylor's senior Blair Shankle scored a No. 4 ranking with her four-match win streak. The Lady Bears doubles duo of Shankle and sophomore Elizabeth Profit is ranked No. 32.
After the dual match against Texas Tech, the Lady Bears continue their road stretch with play at Iowa State and West Virginia on March 31 and April 2, respectively. The Iowa State match is set for 3 p.m., while action at West Virginia begins at 9 a.m.
