THE RUNDOWN
LUBBOCK, Texas -
The No. 15 Baylor women's tennis team (13-5) battled throughout a tight dual match, which included five three-setters, but ultimately fell to No. 9 Texas Tech (16-3), 4-2 on Sunday morning.

The Lady Raiders scored first, snagging the doubles point with a victory at No. 3 after Alba Cortina-Pou and Alex Valenstein defeated Angelina Shakhraichuk and Jessica Hinojosa, 6-3. No. 73 Felicity Maltby and Gabriela Talaba clinched the point at No. 2 doubles with a win over Karina Traxler and Theresa Van Zyl, 6-4.

Baylor sought a comeback when Shakhraichuk landed a victory over Katelyn Jackson, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, at No. 6 singles. Senior Rhiann Newborn tied it up, 2-2, with a three-set triumph over Alex Valenstein in the No. 3 singles slot, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.

The Lady Raiders followed with a three court win to seal the deal. Sarah Dvorak defeated junior Theresa Van Zyl, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4 singles. No. 56 Felicity Maltby notched a three set victory over sophomore Elizabeth Profit at the No. 2 position, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 1 singles, No. 17 Gabriela Talaba succeeded over No. 4 senior Blair Shankle, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, to secure the final victory for Texas Tech.

The Lady Bears continue their road stretch with play at Iowa State and West Virginia on March 31 and April 2, respectively. The Iowa State match is set for 3 p.m., while action at West Virginia begins at 9 a.m.
