THE RUNDOWN
STILLWATER, Okla. ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" No. 10 ranked Baylor women's tennis (10-4, 0-1) opened its Big 12 Conference slate with a 4-1 loss in a top 10 showdown at No. 7 Oklahoma State (11-3, 1-0) on Thursday night.
Following the loss to the defending Big 12 champion, the Lady Bears are 2-3 against ranked opponents and 1-4 on the road.
The Cowgirls jumped ahead, earning the doubles point and two points for wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles for a 3-0 advantage before freshman Jessica Hinojosa put Baylor on the board with a two-set, 6-4, 6-2, win at the No. 6 singles position.
Oklahoma State followed with a two-set win, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4 singles against junior Theresa Van Zyl, to secure the match-winner.
The remainder of the matches went unfinished after the Cowgirls clinched, 4-1. No. 11 senior Blair Shankle and No. 10 Viktoriya Lushkova, went to a third set before the clincher, 6-2, 2-6, 2-1, at No. 1 singles, and freshman Angelina Shakhraichuk stretched her match to the third set against Lena Ruppert, 6-2, 3-6, 1-1, at No. 5 singles.
