May 26, 2017 WACO, Texas ÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬" Baylor softball's Lindsey Cargill was named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Softball Second Team, announced by the organization on Thursday.
Recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom, the All-America award for Cargill marks the second-straight season that the Lady Bears have earned the honors, with Linsey Hays earning a spot on the second team in 2016.
The selection is the 14th overall for the Baylor program, with Cargill becoming the 10th Lady Bear to earn the top academic award in the country.
The infielder from Robinson, Texas, joins former Lady Bears Kim Wilmoth (three-time), Naomi Fitzgerald (two-time), Tiffany Wesley (two-time), Ryan Stukel, Kelly Osburn, Alex Colyer, Nicole Wesley, Whitney Canion, and Hays.
Players are selected by CoSIDA members, and to be considered, players must accumulate a GPA between 3.30-4.00 with at least a sophomore athletic standing, while being a starter or key reserve for their respective team.
Cargill, a senior graduate student in Sports Pedagogy carrying a 3.77 GPA, has stacked a long list of accolades and honors over easily the most productive season in her collegiate career.
