Shankle Earns CoSIDA Academic All-America Distinction

AUSTIN, Texas ÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬" Baylor women's tennis senior Blair Shankle was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Division I Women's At-Large Third Team, the organization announced Thursday morning.

Shankle, who earned singles All-American recognition after earning a Top 16 seed to the NCAA Singles Championship and advancing to the Round of 16, is the first player in program history to earn All-American accolades on the court and in the classroom. She is the first Academic All-American since 1999 and the ninth overall for Baylor.

Shankle, an accounting major, boasts a 3.98 cumulative grade point average. She is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 first team honoree, eight-time Big 12 Commissioners Honor Roll selection and Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The recipient of the 2017 ITA Most Improved Senior national award was also named a doubles All-American in 2014 and 2015. Shankle secured the highest ranking for a singles player in program history with a No. 4 rating this season and entered the NCAA Singles Championship as the Big 12's automatic qualifier and No. 5 overall seed.

The Dallas, Texas, native is one of the best to come through head coach Joey Scrivano's system as she finished her career ranked third in doubles wins (99), tied for fourth in singles winning percentage (.826), sixth in singles wins (109) and seventh in doubles winning percentage (.733).

Shankle closed the season with a No. 6 final ranking and a 30-5 individual record at the No. 1 singles position. She led the Lady Bears to an undefeated home regular season, their 13th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and the program's 14th NCAA First Round win.
