11th-annual event has been moved to Maridoe due to flooding at Royal Oaks
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's golf heads to Dallas to host the 11th-annual Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, which runs Monday at Tuesday at Maridoe Golf Club. This year's tournament was moved to Maridoe in Carrollton, Texas, due to flooding at Royal Oaks.
For the second consecutive season, the tournament will be played using The Maxwell format, with all five players on each team's lineup playing the same hole together. The 14-team field features tournament-host No. 41 Baylor, No. 16 Arkansas, Charlotte, Houston, No. 39 Iowa, Kent State, Michigan, Minnesota, No. 33 North Carolina, No. 34 North Carolina State, No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Pepperdine, No. 6 SMU and UTSA.
The Bears are coming off a perfect 5-0 match play record on their way to winning the inaugural Big 12 Match Play Tournament, which gave Baylor its first Big 12 title since 2001. Prior to that, the Bears overcame a six-shot final round deficit to win the Trinity Forest Invitational, topping tournament-host SMU by one stroke.
Baylor is also two-time defending Royal Oaks Intercollegiate champions. The Bears won last year's event by 19 strokes after setting the tournament record with a 54-hole total of 25-under-par 827. Braden Bailey tied for third place at 6-under 207, Travis McInroe took fifth place at 5-under 206, Garrett May and Matthew Perrine tied for sixth place at 4-under 207, and Colin Kober tied for ninth place at 3-under 210.
Baylor also won the 2016 Royal Oaks in dominating fashion, running away with a 32-shot margin of victory after shooting 31-under 1,034 in a 6-count-5 event. Bailey and Perrine tied for medalist honors in that year's event at 10-under 203, while Hunter Shattuck tied for third place at 7-under 206 and Dossey tied for sixth at 4-under 209.
