WACO, Texas -- Baylor track and field will have 18 student-athletes in action at the Texas Invitational, running Friday and Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
The men's pole vault will kick off field action at 2 p.m. CT on Friday, while the running events begin at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, running events start at 12:25 p.m. for the Bears.
The meet will feature men's and women's athletes from Texas State, McNeese State, UTSA, UTEP, Stephen F. Austin, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Houston, Princeton, Michigan, Northwood University and UT-Arlington.
Last weekend, the Bears hosted the Baylor Invitational and came away with six event titles. Greyson Gonzalez captured the lone field event title with teammates Ryan Womack and Riley B. Richards finishing in second and third. Other event champions included Sydney Washington (100 meters), Raven Grant (200 meters), Danny Leland (800 meters) and the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays.
Heading into the meet, BU holds several top-20 national marks. Junior Wil London holds the nation's ninth-best time of 45.90 in the 400 meters while freshman Howard Fields III ranks 18th with a time of 46.39. Senior Kiana Hawn leads the women's side with a seventh-best mark of 57.60 in the 400-meter hurdles. Kiana Horton (200m), Alex Madlock (triple jump) and Anna West (5,000m) all hold top-20 national marks in their respective events.
The women's and men's 4x400-meter relay currently hold the third and seventh-best times in the nation while the men's 4x100-meter relays ranks 14th.
The latest USTFCCCA team rankings have the men at No. 19 while the women are No. 27.
Next week, Baylor will host its second home meet in the Michael Johnson Invitational on April 21 during the campus-wide Green and Gold Weekend.
