CLYDE HART CLASSIC RESULTS
WACO, Texas – After fittingly wrapping up the Clyde Hart Classic with a win in the men's 4x400-meter relay, Baylor coach Michael Ford said he knows the legendary coach "had his stopwatch in hand up in Heaven."
Coach Clyde Hart, who passed away on Nov. 1, 2025, was honored with a video tribute just before the running of the women's and men's 4x400 relays that capped off the two-day meet at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.
"Just a tremendous man, he was definitely like a father to me growing up," said Ford, whose team came away with five event titles in its second outdoor meet of the season. "I was glad I was able to talk to Mrs. Maxine (Clyde's wife of 69 years) a little bit this afternoon. She stayed for the whole thing, and to honor her, too . . . but definitely will always be in my heart."
In a twist, it was actually Baylor's "B" relay team of Malik Franklin, Austen Diggs, Bailey Hashmi and Abbas Ali that won with a time of 3:08.44, which would lead the Big 12 and rank No. 8 coming into this weekend. The Baylor "A" team of Dennis Minkah, Ricquan Graham, Tyler Honeyman and Aren Spencer finished fourth behind TCU and Sam Houston in 3:10.71.
"The guys decided who was going to run on the relays this week," Ford said. "I made a call on the team that actually won, because one of the guys (Laurenz Colbert) tweaked his hip a little bit. I put Austen and Bailey in the middle, and they ran great. So, they may be on the 'A" relay now. But we'll definitely need to run a lot better coming up in a couple weeks."
Baylor also swept the 4x100 relays at the start of the meet. Anchored by freshman Success Oyibu, the women's team of Royaltee Brown, Hannah Lowe and Jada Edwards edged Big 12 rival TCU (44.42) and ran a winning time of 42.31 that would rank 12th nationally.
The men's quartet of Diggs, Colbert, Graham and Brian Limage were clocked in 39.89 seconds to beat a field that included SFA, Louisiana Tech, UTA and Iowa State. TCU's relay was disqualified for running out of its zone.
Running in her first collegiate 3,000-meter steeplechase, freshman Eva Jacobsen won with a time of 11:10.52, the best mark in the Big 12 so far this year.
Freshman Werner Bezuidenhout advanced through the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles with a PR time of 14.10 and then finished fifth in the finals at 14.11.
In the women's 100 meters, Oyibu was fifth overall and the top collegiate athlete with a time of 11.44. Baylor's top finisher on the men's side in the 100 meters was Graham in 10.42.
Freshman high jumper Landon Freeman was fourth with a mark of 6-8 ¾, while junior Sydney Smith was fifth in 5-5.
Baylor will be at home twice in April, hosting the Baylor Invitational on April 10 and the Michael Johnson Invitational on April 24-25.
But next up for the Bears is a trip to Austin for the Texas Relays that begin Wednesday.
