Director of Sports Journalism Jerry Hill gives his five takes for No. 18/19 Baylor softball (33-14, 10-6) hosting Texas (30-21, 10-6) in the final two regular-season games on Saturday and Sunday at Getterman Stadium:
1. Senior send-off. Baylor's four seniors, including career record-setters Shelby Friudenberg (47 homers, 187 RBI) and Jessie Scroggins (261 hits), will be honored after Sunday's 2 p.m. game. Also recognized will be third baseman Caitlin Charlton, who suffered a season-ending knee injury, and Auburn transfer catcher Carlee Wallace.
2. World champions. The 2017 World Series softball champions from Lake Air Little League will be recognized at Saturday's 6:30 p.m. game.
3. Batting title. Junior outfielder Kyla Walker (.455) and Scroggins (.453) are both in position to break Lindsey Cargill's program record for single-season batting average (.430) that was set just a year ago. They also rank 2-3 in the Big 12 batting race, behind only Oklahoma State's Vanessa Shippy (.458).
4. Gia's got game. Junior ace Gia Rodoni (20-9, 1.93) has won a school-record six Big 12 Pitcher of the Year awards and gives the Lady Bears a 20-game winner for the sixth consecutive season.
5. Bring 'em back. At No. 15 in the latest RPI rankings, Baylor is in position to host an NCAA regional in back-to-back years and the fifth time in program history (2004, 2009, 2014, 2017). The regionals will be held at 16 host sites on May 18-20.
