Baylor Bear Insider Jerry Hill gives his three takeaways from Tuesday's Day 10 of football's fall camp:
- DEVELOPING DEPTH FOR O-LINE: More than just the sheer numbers – from six or seven scholarship linemen in the first spring under Matt Rhule to 18 coming into fall camp – quality depth is emerging with redshirt freshmen Eleasah Anderson, Henry Klinge and Khalil Keith, junior college transfer Johncarlo Valentin and promising true freshmen Connor Galvin, Jackson Kimble and Casey Phillips. "That whole second offensive line group has stepped up a lot," said senior Patrick Lawrence. "We've been able to work some of them in with the (No. 1 offense), too, and they've held their own."
- FROM AUSTRIA TO ARLINGTON TO BAYLOR: Freshman tight end Christoph Henle had already gone through one transition when he moved from Innsbruck, Austria, to Arlington, Texas, to play high school football at The Oakridge School. But, in the spring, it was a whole new world when he enrolled in college and tried to tackle the complicated offensive playbook. "It definitely was a shock, and that's why I'm so glad I did it, so that I don't have to do it now," the 6-6, 251-pound Henle said. "Just getting to know the huge playbook, the install, and just how fast and physical the game is at the college level."
- BLOCKING OUT THE VOICES: Fifth-year senior Blake Blackmar, one of four returning starters in the offensive line, said the coaches challenged them with a "max effort" 10-play drive at the end of Tuesday's practice. "After three or four plays, you're gassed and sucking for air, and that really makes you have to focus down and think quickly about what you have to do," Blackmar said. "It's all about how you as a man are able to take that pressure and the tiredness and all of the voices in your head and block that out and just say, 'Alignment, assignment, technique.' That's all I have to do. This play."
