Bears fall behind 5-1 at the half, drop conference opener on the road
THE RUNDOWN
STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 8 Baylor equestrian (2-2, 0-1 Big 12) fell 11-5 in its conference opener at No. 3 Oklahoma State (3-1, 1-0 Big 12) Friday afternoon at Totusek Arena in Stillwater, Okla.
BU is now 0-3 in conference openers at Oklahoma State under head coach Casie Maxwell, snapping a two-meet winning streak against the Cowgirls.
The Bears opened the meet with fences and horsemanship. Madison Day got the Bears on the board with an 85.5-85 win over Katie Schell on Oakley, but OSU claimed two points on Caraway and Clever to go up 2-1 in the meet. Rachael Davis and Maddie Vorhies tied their opponents, so no points were awarded.
Gabrielle Marty and Kacie Scharf tied in horsemanship, but the Cowgirls claimed the other three points to go up 5-1 at the halfway point of the meet.
The Bears fought back in the second half. In flat, Grace Thiel earned a 74-0 win over Katie Pelzel on Sunny while Rachael Davis scored a dominant 78-67.5 victory over Hannah Janson on Ethon. OSU took the remaining three points.
The Bears narrowly fell 3-2 in reining to end the meet. Sydney Scheckel posted a 70 on Hannah for a point, and Georgia Smith edged Kristi Wiggins, 67.5-67, on J-Lo for the other western point.
