Waco native ran third leg on United States’ gold medal run.
WACO, Texas – Baylor alum Wil London ran a 44.43 split on the third leg Sunday to help the Team USA men's 4x400-meter relay team win the gold medal in Sunday's final at the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
The Waco, Texas, native finished strong to give the United States a comfortable lead as he passed the baton to Rai Benjamin, who closed the deal in 44.19 to give Team USA (world-leading 2:56.69) the world championship by more than a second over Jamaica (2:57.90). Fred Kerley (43.44) and Michael Cherry (44.63) ran the other two legs for the United States.
London finished his Baylor career as an eight-time All-American and won four-consecutive Big 12 outdoor 400-meter titles.
Running for USA earlier this year, he won a silver medal in the 400 meters at the NACAC U23 Championships in Mexico; placed fourth in the 400 and anchored the 4x400 relay to a silver medal at the Pan American Games in Peru; and took second in the 400 at last month's USA vs. Europe Match in Minsk, Belarus.
