
No. 1 A&T Picks Up Road Win at Hawaii Pacific

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The No. 1-ranked Baylor acrobatics and tumbling team remained perfect in 2019 after defeating host Hawaii Pacific, 284.190 to 277.355 at Moanalua Gym on Tuesday evening.Â

The Bears (5-0) never trailed to the Sharks, taking the lead in event one, 38.75 to 38.55 and never looked back. The Bears earned a perfect 10 in the toss heat of compulsory, the first of two perfect 10s on the day.Â

In the acro portion, the Bears were edged out by HPU, who scored a 29.65 to BU's 29.60. However, the Bears still held the lead, 68.35 to 68.2.Â

In event three, the Bears extended their lead before halftime, aided by their second perfect 10 of the night, a 10 in heat three. Heading into the break, the Bears led, 97.95 to 97.85.Â

The Bears extended their lead in the toss portion, scoring 9.80, 9.75 and 9.95 to finish with a combined score of 29.50 to HPU's 28.40.Â

In the tumbling portion, the Bears continued to open up their lead, with an event-high score of 9.900 in the six-element pass. The Bears scored 56.450 in the event, while the Sharks scored 53.875.Â

Finally, in the team event, the Bears scored 100.29 to push their final score to 284.190, while HPU scored 97.53 to finish with a score of 277.355.Â

The final score of 284.190 in the second-highest final score of the season for the Bears, just shy of their 285.150 put up in the Oregon meet on March 3.Â

With the win, the Bears improve to 46-1 all-time under head coach Felecia Mulkey. The victory extends Baylor's win streak to 24 consecutive meets, with its last loss coming on Feb. 25, 2017 at Oregon.Â

Next the Bears will return home to host No. 8 Converse College on March 26 at 6 p.m. CT at the Ferrell Center.Â
