Bears look for perfect season at home for fourth time in program history
WACO, Texas – No. 4 Baylor equestrian (7-3, 3-1 Big 12) will finish its regular season play and recognize 16 riders on Senior Day with a top-four matchup against No. 2 Texas A&M (8-4, 2-4 SEC) on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
"This is a big meet for our team this weekend as we go up against a very good Texas A&M team. Our team is in a really good place right now and I like how things are coming together for us, but we definitely cannot let up against any of our opponents."
A win on Saturday would secure the Bears' fourth perfect home record in program history and first under head coach Casie Maxwell. BU previously won all of its home meets during the 2005-06 (3-0), 2014-15 (9-0) and 2015-16 (7-0) seasons.
BU returns to the ring following an 11-7 road victory over No. 8 TCU on March 2, where the Bears closed out conference play with a 3-1 record and secured the No. 1 Big 12 postseason seed.
BU will recognize its 16 seniors at the conclusion of the meet. The class led by two-time NCEA All-American Abbi Demel won the 2017 Big 12 Championship and looks to add another trophy later this month.
"We have a great group who have all been instrumental in how our team has come together this year," Maxwell said. "We are all really appreciative of their hard work and commitment to the team. They have certainly left some big footsteps for the classes behind them to fill."
The Aggies are shaking off a 12-8 home loss to No. 1 Auburn on March 1. BU's last encounter with A&M resulted in a 14-4 road loss in College Station.
A bounce house and pony rides will be available during the meet, weather permitting.
