Madi O’Neal went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI
WACO, Texas – It was a back and forth affair Friday night at Getterman Stadium between Baylor (15-22, 2-9) and 15th-ranked Texas Tech (33-8, 4-6) in their Big 12 series opener. The Lady Bears recorded five hits and drew five walks but ultimately fell to the Red Raiders, 6-2.
After Texas Tech plated a run in the top of the first for the early lead, the Lady Bears were quick to answer. With a runner on first and one out, Kassidy Krupit hit a grounder that the Tech third baseman fielded but then erred on the throw to second. Lou Gilbert scored from first to tie things up at one.
Two innings later, Baylor took a 2-1 lead off an RBI single up the middle by Madi O'Neal. Lou Gilbert led off the inning with a double to left field before she moved to second when Taylor Ellis walked to put two on with two outs. That set things up for O'Neal who finished 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. It marked O'Neal's third multi-hit game of the season and fifth of her career.
Baylor held the 2-1 lead before Texas Tech tied things up in the fourth inning. The Red Raiders took the lead for good in the fifth.
HIGHLIGHTS
5 – Number of walks Baylor drew against Texas Tech. Josie Bower and Ana Watson each walked twice.
TOP QUOTES
Glenn Moore on the game…
"I thought we battled pretty good up there. She (Tech pitcher Missy Zoch) had good stuff, but we drew five walks on the night and it seemed like we left a good many on base. We didn't have timely hitting but we were hitting. We just broke down in the fourth and fifth innings. We got a lead and when we give up the lead, we don't play consistent. There are a lot of things we could be doing better, but I thought our effort was good tonight. I was very pleased with the fight, and we came out with some energy. We just had one bad inning, and that's part of the seven. You've got to play them all."
