The Bears add freshman from Hong Kong for the spring season
WACO, Texas – Baylor Director of Tennis and Head Men's Tennis Coach Brian Boland announced the addition of freshman Sebastian Nothhaft to the 2020 spring roster on Tuesday.
He will join the team this semester.
Nothhaft comes to Baylor from Hong Kong after graduating at Kurpfalz Gymnasium Mannheim in Germany. Most recently winning the Seogwipo Asia Oceania International Junior Tennis Championships, he also won the ITF Petit Camp Junior Open and was a singles finalist Central Africa Juniors Circuit and ITF Junior Grade 4.
He is a four-time ITF winner in grade 4 doubles and also won titles in South Africa, South Korea and Mauritius.
"Sebastian is one of the best junior players in the world and wants nothing more than to maximize his abilities," Boland said. "We are so excited to have someone of Sebastian's character and ability join our program."
Standing at 6-foot-3, he has an ITF juniors career-high ranking of No. 72 and is the seventh-ranked Asian junior tennis player according to the Asian Tennis Federation.
Nothhaft will enter a BU program that has won 13 Big 12 Conference regular season titles and nine tournament crowns over the 23-year history of the league. He joins four returning letterwinners and newcomers Alex Garcia, Joseph Chen, Finn Bass, Rahul Dhokia, Ryan Dickerson, Christopher Frantzen and Jenson Brooksby for the 2020 spring season.
BU opens the spring schedule with a doubleheader against Boise State and UT Arlington on Saturday, Jan. 18 at Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center. The matches are slated for 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. starts, respectively.
