FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 5 Baylor men's tennis (5-1) couldn't overcome a late deficit in singles action and fell 4-3 to Arkansas (2-2) on Saturday afternoon at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Arkansas extended its all-time series lead over the Bears, 17-1.
Baylor opened up doubles action on a strong note when 20
th-ranked
Constantin Frantzen and
Sven Lah recorded a 6-3 victory over Maxim Verboven and Enrique Paya on court one. Then, sophomore
Finn Bass and freshman
Sebastian Nothhaft dropped a tight 6-4 match on court three to leave the doubles point up to the No. 2 spot.
After forcing a tiebreaker, 25
th-ranked
Ryan Dickerson and
Matias Soto captured a 7-6(3) triumph over Alex Reco and Nico Rousset to give BU the 1-0 lead.
Arkansas got on the board when Melvin Manuel defeated freshman
Rahul Dhokia, 6-3, 6-1, on court five. Then, 95
th-ranked Frantzen recorded a 6-4, 6-1 to help give Baylor the 2-1 edge.
The Razorbacks rolled off the next three points to clinch the match. Bass dropped a 6-4, 6-2 match to Nico Rousset on court four for the first loss of his collegiate career. Arkansas took the lead when No. 59 Soto fell 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 to Alex Reco at the No. 2 spot.
No. 111 Dickerson's 6-3, 0-6, 7-6(5) loss to Josh Howard-Tripp at the No. 3 spot clinched the match for the Razorbacks, and then No. 19 Lah closed out the afternoon with a 7-6(12), 6-7, 10-7 win at the No. 1 spot.
