Bears pick up veteran Schiessl with a collegiate career record of 58-32 in singles and 47-31 in doubles
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's tennis has added senior transfer Erik Schiessl to its roster, head coach Michael Woodson announced Tuesday. Schiessl, a native of Nuremberg, Germany, joins the Bears for his final season of eligibility after spending three years at Florida State and Oklahoma State.
"We're really excited about Erik joining our program and becoming part of the Baylor family," Woodson said. "He's already proven himself at a very high level in college tennis with the experience and success he had at Oklahoma State and Florida State, and we believe his best tennis is still ahead of him. Erik brings a tremendous level of maturity, competitiveness and professionalism every day, and those qualities will make an immediate impact on our team both on and off the court. Beyond his talent as a player, he's the type of person and teammate that fits perfectly with the group we will have going into the 2026-2027 season."
Schiessl spent his most recent two seasons with the Seminoles, where he was a key contributor to Florida State's roster with a 30-20 singles record and 41-19 doubles record over his two-year stint. In his final season at FSU, he posted a 13-11 overall record in singles play, switching between Court Two and Three, while leading Court One in doubles. Schiessl and doubles partner Luis Felipe Miguel ended the season ranked No. 23 in the nation. In the fall, Schiessl qualified in singles and doubles of the NCAA Individual Tournament after advancing in the ITA Southeast Regional in singles and claiming the doubles title.
In his sophomore season in Tallahassee, Schiessl posted a 17-9 singles record, including an 8-2 dual record on Court Four, and went 7-1 in the ACC. In doubles, Schiessl went undefeated in the non-conference season on Court Two, ending the season with a 13-3 dual record.
Prior to Florida State, Schiessl spent his freshman season at Oklahoma State, where he went 28-11 in singles. Before arriving in the United States, Schiessl was a four-time Bavarian Champion and German Vice Champion in doubles.
Schiessl has also excelled in the classroom throughout his career, earning All-ACC Academic Team honors, ITA Scholar Athlete recognition and a spot on the ACC Academic Honor Roll during his time in Tallahassee.
