MT’s Van Schalkwyk Leads Namibia to Davis Cup World Group II Qualifiers

Baylor senior goes undefeated in singles, 5-0 at No. 1, without dropping a set
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's tennis senior Connor Van Schalkwyk helped lead Namibia to the Davis Cup World Group II qualifiers, going undefeated in singles play as his home country advanced with a 4-1 record.
Van Schalkwyk, a native of Windhoek, Namibia, went 5-0 at No. 1 singles without dropping a set. He also went 3-1 in doubles, giving him a hand in eight of Namibia's nine total match wins during the competition. Namibia will now move on to the World Group II qualifiers in February, one of the biggest steps forward for the program in recent years.
The performance adds to a breakout year for Van Schalkwyk, who earned First Team All-Big 12 honors in both singles and doubles for Baylor during the 2025-26 season and picked up two Big 12 Player of the Week honors along the way. He reached as high as No. 17 in the ITA singles rankings and posted a 17-6 dual-match singles record, with wins over four nationally ranked opponents.
Van Schalkwyk transferred to Baylor from Old Dominion after two standout seasons with the Monarchs, where he was named Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year in 2024 and earned First Team All-Conference honors in singles and doubles in both his freshman and sophomore seasons.
Van Schalkwyk and his fellow Bear teammates will return to Waco for the start of classes next week and look to build off their 2025-26 run that led Baylor to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
