Bears top South Dakota State in dominant fashion after falling short to No. 8 Texas A&M
THE RUNDOWN
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – No. 9 Baylor equestrian (5-7, 2-3 Big 12) closed out nonconference action with a 13-3 victory over South Dakota State (0-8) and a narrow 10-8 defeat to No. 8 Texas A&M (4-6) on Friday at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.
MEET ONE: No. 8 Texas A&M 10, No. 9 Baylor 8
Opening the meet in fences, the Bears took down the Aggies by a 3-2 score. Freshman Savannah Hemby took an 84-83 win over Kaitlyn Lovingfoss on Carrera while senior Madison Day scored an 86-85 victory on Sagaro. Junior Gia Gulino secured the 84-80 win over Caroline Dance on Zinnia.
Texas A&M took the lead in horsemanship when the Aggies took the event, 4-1. Baylor's lone point came from junior Clara Johnson who scored a 76-74 win over Hayley Riddle on Walter.
In the flat, senior Grace Thiel won 80-78 on Tin while junior Rachael Davis won MOP honors with her 93-90 victory over Hayden Stewart on Risky.
In reining, the Bears were edged by a 3-2 margin. Sophomore Madaline Callaway secured MOP recognition with a 73-72 triumph over Marissa Harrell on Gallo while freshman Jenna Meimerstorf grabbed a 71.5-71 triumph on Dixie.
MEET TWO: No. 8 Baylor 13, South Dakota State 3
Baylor opened up the meet with a 4-0 lead in the flat. Davis grabbed her second MOP award of the day with a 90-82 win on Hamlet while Thiel took an 84-78 triumph over Jessica Martinez on Tin.
Day took an 83-81 win on Coraggio, and sophomore Caroline Fuller rounded out the sweep with an 81-71 triumph on Aluna.
In horsemanship, BU took a 2-2 tie against the Jackrabbits. Johnson won MOP honors with her 73.5-71.5 victory on Murphy while freshman Gabrielle Marty scored a 73.5-72.5 win on Cowboy.
BU took a 3-1 win in reining. Callaway doubled up in MOP honors after scoring a 72-69.5 victory on Buddy while sophomore Maggie Cincotta posted a 70.5-69 win over Cassandra Townsend on Cash. Meimerstorf got her second win of the day when she took a 69-68 win on Vicky.
The Bears closed out the meet in fences, dominating the Jackrabbits for the 4-0 sweep. Day, Hemby and Fuller all recorded points while Gulino earned MOP recognition with an 85-79 victory on Donald.
