Bears get wins in flat and fences in Ft. Worth
THE RUNDOWN
FT. WORTH, Texas – No. 9 Baylor equestrian (3-5, 1-3 Big 12) couldn't overcome a late deficit and ultimately fell 12-8 to No. 7 TCU (5-4, 2-2 Big 12) on Friday at Diamond Creek Ranch in Ft. Worth.
The Bears opened up the meet in fences and secured the 3-2 lead. Junior Gia Gulino edged Wynne Weatherly, 84.5-77, for her third win of the season. Junior Rachael Davis earned an 81.5-81 victory on Phia for her fourth win, and freshman Savannah Hemby opened her collegiate career with an 85-66 win on Elle.
The Bears fell 4-1 in reining with sophomore Maggie Cincotta securing a 68.5-68 victory over Kaitlyn Baker on Bob.
The Bears got back on track and took a 3-2 win in flat. Davis went 2-0 on the day with her 85-80 victory on Tony while sophomore Caroline Fuller earned her first career MOP honors with a 92-84 victory on Lina. Junior Caroline Weaver defeated her opponent, 81-79, on Pim.
Junior Kacie Scharf recorded the lone point in horsemanship for the Bears after she defeated Mattie Dukes, 74-70.5, on Jack. It marked her third win of the season in the event.
