LUBBOCK, Texas – For the second consecutive week, Baylor (0-0-2) battled in a double-overtime scoreless draw. This time it came on the road against a team picked in the preseason to win the Big 12 as the Bears went 110 minutes against Texas Tech (0-0-1) in Lubbock on Friday night.
The Red Raiders, who have the league's reigning Offensive Player of the Year in Kirsten Davis, took the field for the first time this year after their originally scheduled season opener at Kansas State was postponed last week due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Baylor came out aggressive to start as the Bears outshot the home team, 8-4, in the opening period en route to finishing the match with a 16-12 advantage in shots. Ten of Baylor's chances were on goal. Junior forward Taylor Moon nearly netted the golden goal twice in the second overtime period as she took her defender one-on-one before firing a pair of shots from close range. The first shot went just high of the goal while the second barely missed slipping into the bottom right corner of the net.
Defensively, senior Jennifer Wandt continued her solid start to the year as she finished with a season-high seven saves in her 27th career shutout. She is now tied with Dawn Greathouse (1997-00) atop the standings in program history.
Reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week Kayley Ables had the task of defending Davis for most of the game. Ables continued her impressive play as she stepped in and stole the ball from Davis several times as the Red Raider forward tried to make a move toward the goal.
Up next, the Bears are scheduled to travel to Ames to face Iowa State on Sept. 25.

Paul Jobson on the game…
"Really proud of our team. They came out on the road and got a point against a really good Texas Tech team. We had some great opportunities to score right in front of the goal that just barely missed. We made some great improvements from last week and will continue to grow from here."
