Bears to Face a Strong Test at Historic ‘Hogan’s Alley’
Fort Worth, Texas – Baylor men's golf returns to action for the third time this fall at the Colonial Collegiate Invitational on Monday morning.
Colonial Country Club, the site of the PGA Tour's Charles Schwab Challenge and made famous by Fort Worth native and golf legend Ben Hogan, is near and dear to Baylor head coach Mike McGraw.
"Ben Hogan was my favorite player as a boy, and he kind of made Colonial famous," he said. "It's just a classic old, park land golf course with two or three really hard golf holes, and then a lot of holes you can get, if you hit the fairway. It's in as good a condition right now, as it has been in years."
The Bears will face a stiff test as a part of a field that boasts nine teams ranked in the top-25 of the latest men's Division I Golfweek rankings.
"The really exciting part, above and beyond the golf course, is the field," McGraw said. "It's some of the best teams from the SEC and the best teams from the Big 12, so it's a great field on a championship course."
Baylor's lineup will look a little different from their first two events. The top-three are familiar names, with juniors Johnny Keefer and Luke Dossey leading things off, followed by senior Mark Reppe. The back-end of the lineup will have a couple of fresh faces as junior Scout McNealy will make his first-career start in the team lineup while freshman Zach Heffernan will make his collegiate debut in the fifth spot.
"We have two new players in the lineup: Zach Heffernan, a freshman from Boerne, and Scout [McNealy]," McGraw said. "Scout is a junior that has never played in a varsity event, which is great. I'm excited for him. That's a big deal when you get to play your first event for a division-one team."
The 54-hole event will begin Monday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Live stats can be found on golfstat.com. For more information on Baylor Men's Golf, follow @BaylorMGolf on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook
