No. 4-seed Baylor faces No. 1-seed Oklahoma State at 10 a.m. on Friday
WACO, Texas – No. 10 Baylor equestrian (1-6, 1-4) looks to defend its home arena this weekend at the 2021 Big 12 Equestrian Championship, running March 26-27 at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco.
The fourth-seeded Bears will face No. 1-seed Oklahoma State at 10 a.m. on Friday, while No. 2 Fresno State and No. 3 TCU will square off simultaneously. The winners of Friday's matchups will advance to Saturday's final, set to begin immediately following a consolation meet between the non-advancing teams, which starts at 9:30 a.m. CT.
Baylor enters as the defending Big 12 champions, taking home the most recent title in 2019. The 2020 Championship was not held due to COVID-19 cancellations.
BU has claimed the league championship four times in program history. The Bears won their first title in 2010 and have claimed each of the last three trophies in odd-numbered years. They'll look to keep that odd-year magic running, having won the title in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
The Bears dropped both regular-season contests to the Cowgirls this year, 14-6, on March 6 in Stillwater, Okla., and 11-8 on March 14 in Waco. OSU leads the all-time series 28-13, including wins in each of the last four meetings.
BU narrowly fell to Fresno State on March 7 in a neutral-site competition, 9-6. The Bears have won 12 of the 17 all-time meetings with the Bulldogs.
Baylor split the season series with TCU, garnering a 10-9 home win on Feb. 6 before falling in Fort Worth, 12-7, on March 11. Baylor owns a 23-8 lead in the all-time series over the Horned Frogs.
Due to venue size, health protocols and CDC guidelines, the Conference members have determined that fans will not be permitted at this year's Championship.
