Glenn Moore was more than willing to take an ice-Gatorade shower after Friday's 7-1 win over Kansas gave the 21st-year head coach his 800th win at Baylor, becoming the 24th active coach in the country to register 800 wins at one school.
He just wanted to know the culprits who did it, "because they had an opportunity to get ice water and not ice Gatorade. And they picked the Gatorade. It was green, though."
The dunkers were Aliyah Binford and Emily Hott, who snuck in behind Moore and dumped the full bucket of Gatorade on him at the end of the postgame prayer. Binford had back-to-back three-run homers in the third and fourth inning, tying a Getterman Stadium record with six RBI, while Hott extended her on-base streak to 27-straight games with a single and a walk prior to Binford's fourth and fifth homers of the season.
"Two homers, I'll take it from anybody any night, for sure," Moore said of Binford. "Aliyah was really about to be the person you saw tonight right before (she got COVID). She was off for about two weeks, and that knocks anybody back a step or two. Her recovery has been evident from our point of view, but it hasn't really been from a production standpoint. So, it was nice to see her get some production out of that."
The winningest coach across all sports in Baylor history, Moore improves to 800-392 at Baylor and 939-434 overall in 25 years as a head coach.
"Seems like I've been on 799 for a couple of years," Moore said, "but it's nice to finally get there and get that monkey off your back. Certainly, I don't take credit for that myself. I'm just a blessed man to be in one place long enough to do that, and Baylor's been awful good to me. I love being here, I love this program and the school. I've got some great people around me and many athletes who have helped us get to that point."
Moore specifically wanted to acknowledge longtime assistant Mark Lumley, who jas "been right beside me through all of those 800 wins except for the last few," Moore said. Lumley, who was with Moore for two years at LSU and the last 20 at Baylor, died in December after his fourth bout with cancer.
"As I told the girls, I've yet to hit one out of the park, except in practice a few times," Moore said. "It's a team effort."
Binford did her part in getting the 800th win, going 3-for-4 and hitting her first homers at Getterman Stadium since a solo shot against Louisiana Tech on Feb. 25, 2020.
"It was awesome," said Binford, who tied Goose McGlaun for the team lead with her fourth and fifth home runs of the season. "It has been a while since I was able to connect with the ball, and I was glad I could help my team with it."
Baylor (25-15, 6-6) put pressure on Kansas (22-21, 2-11) from the first inning, when Binford ripped a single to center after a two-out walk by McGlaun. Josie Bower led off the second with a double to the gap in left-center and scored on a one-out single by Hannah Thompson.
"We came out similarly with Oklahoma, we just weren't able to sustain it," Moore said of the Lady Bears striking first in a 7-1 loss to the Sooners in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader. "I do like the approach, the way we're getting ready to play. I felt like if we did the same thing tonight, we would have a good opportunity come away with a victory."
After Baylor starter Gia Rodoni (10-7) retired the first seven batters, the Jayhawks threatened in the top of the third on back-to-back one-out singles by Nos. 8 and 9 hitters Tarin Traveiso and Haleigh Harper. But. Rodoni wiggled out of trouble, getting Brittany Jackson on a liner to left and then striking out Macy Omli to leave the two runners stranded.
"Her velocity is up a little bit, not dramatically, but that sets the tone," Moore said. "She's just in control out there, and I just really like the way she's feeling right now. As it's getting a little warmer, I think her body is feeling a little bit better. We had hoped for that. So, it's nice to see."
KU's Hailey Reed (7-6) left the game in the third without recording another out. After singles by Hott and McGlaun, Binford belted out a three-run shot over the left-field wall to stretch the lead to 4-0.
The very next inning, Binford blasted another three-run shot to one of the deepest parts of the park in left-center field. She tied the Getterman Stadium record with the six RBI and became the first Baylor player to hit two homers in the same game since Thompson hit two at Houston on March 10, 2020.
"I'm glad I was able to share that moment with him," Binford said. "He is such a great person."
Baylor's defense, which has made a habit of turning in ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 plays, had another Friday night when leftfielder Lou Gilbert threw out Morgan Wynne at second when the power-hitting first baseman led off the fourth with a single that she tried to stretch into a double.
Rodoni kept the Jayhawks off the board until Madison Hirsch led off the seventh with a homer just over the wall in left-center field. She had two more runners reach base, but recorded her fifth and sixth strikeouts to end the game.
Weather permitting, Baylor and Kansas will resume the series with a game at 2 p.m. Saturday and wrap it up with Sunday's game at 12 p.m.
"Our confidence is pretty high," Binford said. "We have never really been low. We knew we needed to work and become stronger as a team, (so) our confidence is pretty high up."

WACO, Texas – Glenn Moore picked up his 800th win at Baylor as the Lady Bears topped Kansas, 7-1, Friday night at Getterman Stadium. Baylor opened things up an inning later as back-to-back singles by Emily Hott and Goose McGlaun put two runners on with no outs for Aliyah Binford who launched a three-run home run over the left field wall. It marked her fourth homer of the season and first at home since Feb. 25, 2020.
That wasn't enough for Binford as the second-year sophomore went back-to-back with a no-doubter over the center field wall in the fourth inning to put three more runs on the board for Baylor.
The Lady Bears have now won three series openers against Big 12 foes – Texas Tech, Iowa State and Kansas.
HIGHLIGHTS

TOP QUOTES
Baylor head coach Glenn Moore on the game…
"It really was (solid), starting with the circle and then defense and swinging the bats. Of course, the tone was set with Aliyah (Binford). I do like the approach we have, the way we're getting ready to play. I felt like if we did the same thing tonight, that we would have a good opportunity to come away with the victory. I certainly have a lot of respect for Kansas. They swing the bats really well. I just thought we were ready to play tonight."
