STILLWATER, Okla. â After trailing 6-1 through six innings, Baylor baseball battled back to tie the game in the eighth but ultimately fell to No. 21 Oklahoma State, 8-7, in 11 innings on Friday night at O'Brate Stadium in Stillwater, Okla. The Bears (29-15, 9-10 Big 12) will look to bounce back against the Cowboys (29-15-1, 11-11 Big 12) on Saturday night.
Â
BU got on the board first after second-year freshman Kyle Nevin doubled in the second inning to set up runners on second and third with no outs. The Bears scored one run in the frame following a Davion Downey ground out. The Cowboys responded in the bottom of the frame with a solo shot to make it 1-1.
Â
The Cowboys put up a four-spot in the fourth and tacked on another run in the fifth to go up 6-1.
Â
Baylor responded in a big way with four runs of its own in the sixth inning. After a Nevin walk and true freshman Alex Gonzales single through the right side, junior Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo singled to center to trim the deficit to 6-2. Two batters later, second-year freshman Jared McKenzie used a bloop double to score two more. Second-year freshman Tre Richardson picked up an RBI with a single through the right side to close the gap to 6-5.
Â
In the bottom of the seventh, OSU added a run on a Baylor error to go up 7-5. The Bears knotted things up in the top of the eighth after two walks and an infield single loaded the bases with two outs. Sophomore Antonio Valdez reached on a hard-hit ball to first base to make it 7-7.
Â
The two sides held each other scoreless until the bottom of the 11th where the Cowboys used a sacrifice fly to walk it off.
Â
Baylor reliever Jacob Ashkinos (3-1) was tabbed with his first loss of the season, while OSU reliever Trevor Martin (3-0) earned the win.
