Bears go 1-1 in opening day of NCAA singles bracket

ORLANDO, Fla. – Baylor men's tennis third-year sophomore Adrian Boitan advanced from day one of the NCAA Singles Championship on Sunday evening at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
The No. 21-ranked Boitan outlasted No. 88 Magnus Johnson of Florida Gulf Coast in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 on court 10 to book his spot in the Round of 32.
In BU's other first-round match, No. 9-16 seed and 11th-ranked Matias Soto was upset by Wake Forest's No. 40 Eduardo Nava in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Soto finished his fourth-year junior campaign at 20-7 in singles with 11 wins over ranked opponents.

Boitan advances to face No. 48 Florian Broska of Mississippi State in Monday's second round at approximately 1 p.m. CT.
Also, No. 5-8 seed and 9th-ranked Constantin Frantzen/Sven Lah will open their doubles tournament run at 5:30 p.m. CT against Tulane's No. 21 Ewan Moore/Hamish Stewart.
