WACO, Texas – The 18
th-ranked Baylor volleyball team heads south to face No. 22 Rice on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Bears (14-3, 4-1) take a break from their Big 12 matches for a midweek bout with the Owls (15-1, 5-0) in Houston.
Baylor is on a three-match win streak, having defeated Kansas, Oklahoma and West Virginia, respectively. Against West Virginia, senior
Kara McGhee recorded the second double-double of her career in kills and blocks en route to being named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
BU is 10-2 this season when playing a non-conference opponent, having played in or hosted four non-conference tournaments early in the season.
The all-time series with Rice is currently led by the Owls by one match at 23-22. The same is true of the record in Houston, with Rice leading 9-8. The Bears look to even the series on both fronts on Wednesday. BU has won the last nine matches against the Owls, including a 3-0 sweep in 2021 in Waco.
Rice is coming off a five-set win over UTEP to host Baylor, and is currently on an 11-match winning streak. They are undefeated at home, 8-0, and are ranked No. 22 for the third-straight week. They are No. 10 in the RPI as of Monday, Oct. 10. The Owls are led by Sahara Maruska in kills with Anota Adekunle as their leading blocker.
