Molly Ann Walke makes everyone ‘feel valued and important’
Baylor Bear Insider
Whether she is tutoring student-athletes, training academic mentors or chairing the External Engagement Committee, Molly Ann Walke clothes herself "with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."
Recognized for treating others with dignity and respect, Walke "embodies this with our students every single day," said Lauren Kirby, Assistant AD for Learning Support.
"Any student that you work with, no matter the academic level, you come in with a smiling face, you hold them accountable and push them hard, but you make sure that everybody knows that they can be successful in the classroom," Kirby said of Walke, Associate Director of Learning Support for Baylor Athletics since August 2021.
"I've also seen you do this with academic mentors, really helping them as college students be able to gain those skills to be awesome employees in the workforce. With all of their concerns and troubles, you always listen to them and make them feel valued and important."
Prior to coming to Baylor, Walke was a learning specialist for two years at LSU, where she oversaw the summer bridge program and assisted with the educational assessment program. She graduated from LSU in 2014 with a degree in mass communication and earned a master's in social work in 2018.
Ramone Cooper, Associate AD for Academic Services, said Walke is "the epitome of that principle," which is based on Colossians 3:12-14 verses.
"It's been fun watching you grow and evolve as a leader in our space over the last year," Cooper said. "You are so mindful of the different cultures and different backgrounds of not just our students but our staff when it comes to the External Engagement Committee initiatives and promoting one another on social media campaigns."
In her role at Baylor, Walke oversees the academic mentor program, coordinates the Assistants Development Program and maintains a caseload of students across various sports. She also oversees the social media accounts for the Student-Athlete Center for Excellence (SACE).
Cooper said Walke doesn't treat assistants "as if they're interns or part-time employees. You treat them as if they're full-time members of the team, and you pour into them as they grow and develop. We are lucky and grateful to have you on our team."
