THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – No. 24 Baylor women's tennis (5-3) defeated SMU (4-3), 6-1, Friday afternoon at Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
Second-ranked Mel Krywoj and Alicia Herrero Linana made quick work of Jackie Nylander and Claudie Bartolome on court one with a 6-1 victory.
Meanwhile, Alina Shcherbinina and Anita Sahdiieva clawed back from an 0-4 deficit on court two but fell, 4-6,
It all came down to court three where Isabella Harvison and Ana Carmen Zamburek were in a back-and-forth battle with Nicole Petchey and Winslow Huth. The Bears tied the match at 6-6 and proceeded to take the tiebreaker, 7-3, and clinch the doubles point.
Herrero gave the Bears a 2-0 lead with her 6-0, 6-2 win on court three, and Paula Baranano followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court six. Krywoj had the clincher with a 6-2, 6-3 dub on court two.
Shcherbinina added to BU's win total with a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 win on court four before Sahdiieva wrapped things up with a 7-6, 6-4 win.
