Herrero, Krywoj named No. 1 doubles team in the nation
WACO, Texas – No. 17 Baylor women's tennis (6-3) climbed seven spots in the ITA Rankings on Wednesday afternoon after picking up wins over SMU and Mississippi State last weekend.
The Bears now head to the state of Florida where No. 39 Central Florida (4-3) awaits. BU is scheduled to face the Knights in an 11 a.m. match in Orlando.
Baylor was originally scheduled face Florida on Friday afternoon but travel difficulties due to weather forced the match to be canceled.
Baylor is currently riding an eight-match streak where it won the doubles point. The Bears are led by the No. 1-ranked tandem in the country of Alicia Herrero Linana and Mel Krywoj. The duo hasn't lost a doubles match yet this spring with seven wins, three of which against ranked foes. Herrero and Krywoj are the first doubles team in BU history to receive the No. 1 ranking.
In singles, freshman Alina Shcherbinina and Anita Sahdiieva are taking care of business. They are 8-1 and 7-1, respectively, and have not dropped a match this month.
Paula Barañano is also 8-1 this spring and undefeated at 5-0 when she plays on court six.
BU is 1-3 against UCF with the lone win of the series coming in the series opener in 2012. The two teams then met annually from 2018-20.
