PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Bears early lead against Oregon State was not enough to hold off the Beavers Friday night, as they fall, 13-7 in day one of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, California.
After starting pitcher Dariana Orme struck out three batters in the top of the first, the Baylor offense came alive to plate five runs in the bottom of the first. Emily Hott drew a leadoff walk before Sydney Collazos singled to left field putting runners on first and second with two outs. A string of singles from Josie Bower, Ana Watson, Kendall Cross and Taylor Strain brought home four to take the early lead. Tacking on the fifth run was leadoff batter Hott who added another single and gave the Bears the 5-0 advantage.
Baylor scored their last two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth when Bower singled up the middle, plating McKenzie Wilson and a wild pitch from Oregon State brought home Collazos.
Slowly adding runs back, Oregon State plated runs in the second, third and fourth innings. The Beavers came alive in the sixth inning bringing home nine runs on timely hits and Baylor errors.
The seventh saw a scoreless outing for both teams, as the Bears fall to Oregon State.
