WACO, Texas – Baylor University Athletics and The Brandr Group (TBG) have established a group licensing agreement for Baylor University's student-athletes. This partnership creates a pathway for the student-athletes to profit off their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) co-branding with the school's official trademarks and logos.
"We are pleased to partner with The Brandr Group as we move into the next phase of NIL for Baylor Athletics. This relationship will open doors for our student-athletes, allowing them to participate in exciting opportunities in a rapidly changing and growing space," said Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades. "As we have evaluated options, we have been intentional and strategic in finding a partnership that would best support our 500+ student-athletes with group licensing opportunities, while also stewarding relationships with existing and future licensees and retailers. We are incredibly excited for our fans to have new ways of supporting Baylor and our exceptional student-athletes."
The collaboration with The Brandr Group allows for the collective use of student-athletes' NIL in licensing and marketing programs, co-branded with the Baylor University logos and marks. Student-athletes will have the option to voluntarily join a group licensing program. TBG will facilitate group licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes. Participation in the program will not limit any student-athlete's NIL rights in their individual licensing and marketing activities.
TBG, a brand management, marketing and licensing agency, will manage and administer the program as well as develop licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes. With decades of collective management experience for some of the world's largest brands, TBG also manages the group rights program for the NFL, NBA and MLB players' associations in the college space.
Products that combine team logos and player names and numbers have accounted for a large portion of licensed sports merchandise sales at the professional level for decades, and this program opens the door for the same opportunities for student-athletes at the collegiate level. Fans can expect to be able to purchase official Baylor University merchandise, including team jerseys, with the name and number of their favorite Bears players who have joined the respective group licensing program once TBG enters into agreements with applicable school trademark licensees.
"We are excited to be working closely with Baylor University Athletics to explore promising opportunities for their student-athletes," said Wesley Haynes, CEO of the Brandr Group. "Through this group licensing agreement, Baylor student-athletes will have the chance to capitalize on their NIL through a vast merchandising portfolio, while also uncovering new ways for their passionate fans to engage with their favorite players."
