Bears return to Hayward Field to qualify to World Championships
WACO, Texas – Thirteen Baylor student-athletes are headed back to Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., for the USA Track and Field Championships beginning on Thursday. The championship meet acts as a qualifier to the World Athletics Championships held July 15-24 in Eugene for the first time on Team USA's home soil.
Laurenz Colbert (100m, 200m), Hayden Gold (3,000m, 5,000m, 3,000 steeplechase), Jasmine Gryne (400mH), Michaela Francois (100m, 200m), Cooper Mack (shot put), Summer Sergeant (100m, 200m) and Taylor Whitfield (5,000m) will be representing the Bears in the U20 junior championships beginning on Thursday morning.
Mariah Ayers (200m), Jayson Baldridge (400mH), Alexis Duncan (100mH), Aaliyah Miller (800m), Elijah Morris (110mH) and Caira Pettway (100m) carry the Bears through the rest of the championships, acting as the nightcap and finale at the end of each day of competition.
Former Bears Trayvon Bromell (100m), Wil London (400m) and KC Lightfoot (pole vault) will also be striving to earn a spot on Team USA through this week's competition.
First and semifinal rounds of competition will mostly be held on Thursday and Friday, followed by finals on Saturday and Sunday.
The meet will be streamed on USATF.tv all four days and results for the meet can be found online for both junior and senior championships.
