VB’s Sczech Earns Big 12 Rookie of the Week

Freshman opposite gives Baylor its fourth conference honor of five possible
IRVING, Texas – Allie Sczech of the No. 13-ranked Baylor team has earned her first weekly accolade, named the Big 12 Conference's Rookie of the Week on Sept. 27.
The freshman opposite led the Bears in their conference opener against TCU, excelling on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
Along with her season-high 12 kills, she also led the team in blocks with six and points with 15 overall.
The Sugarland, Texas, native finished the match with a .435 attacking percentage, recording just two errors on her 23 attempts.
With the honor, a Baylor player has been named Rookie of the Week for the Big 12 in four out of five opportunities to earn the accolade this season. Freshman setter Averi Carlson earned it on both Aug. 30 and Sept. 13, while redshirt freshman Riley Simpson earned it on Sept. 6.
Sczech and BU return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 28, on the road against Iowa State in Hilton Coliseum. The match is set for an 8 p.m. CT start and will be broadcast on ESPN2 with Courtney Lyle and Katie George on the call.
