A Letter from Mack Rhoades on NIL
1/10/2023 2:00:00 PM | General
Baylor Family,
We are so thankful for the many ways you continue to support Baylor University and Baylor Athletics. Over the past five years, we've celebrated as eight Baylor sport programs have earned No. 1 national rankings, nine sports combined to win 22 Big 12 Championships and six Baylor teams have reached the pinnacle as National Champions. As we look ahead in 2023, there are even greater opportunities for Baylor Athletics, and we need your assistance in taking the next step forward.
The adoption of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) legislation has been a significant change to the collegiate athletics landscape. As the guidelines continue to evolve, we will make the necessary adjustments to ensure our teams are able to compete at the highest levels.
Due to recently updated NCAA guidance, we are now able to publicize our support and endorsement for third-party entities working with Baylor student-athletes to utilize their NIL rights. Baylor Athletics recently announced an NIL Advisory Council, comprised of business leaders and generous Baylor supporters Cary Gray, Mark McCollum, Kevin Cherry, Jeremy Fudge, Larry Heard and Dan Hord.
We are grateful to these volunteers for their time and effort advising various groups to strategically utilize donor funds, and we look forward to working closely with the NIL Advisory Council to ensure all Baylor NIL efforts align with our mission of Preparing Champions for Life.
Startup Waco has been a tremendous partner, developing GXG™ to connect Baylor student-athletes with city-wide opportunities and enabling them to utilize their platforms to uplift the local economy. Startup Waco champions entrepreneurs of all backgrounds by breaking down traditional barriers, collaborating with like-minded institutions and bridging gaps. Additional information about their admirable mission is available at https://startupwaco.com/about.
GXG™ is a terrific option for fans who wish to support Baylor student-athletes through NIL partnerships. Startup Waco built GXG™ to be a true benefit to all involved parties, and we are grateful for all the ways it supports our local community.
Fans who wish to contribute to NIL for Baylor student-athletes through GXG™ are able to donate to the general fund or direct donations to specific sports. As a program of Startup Waco, a registered nonprofit organization, all donations to GXG™ are tax-deductible.
Contributions to Baylor's NIL efforts can be made at https://gxg.startupwaco.com/donate. For more information on GXG™, follow @GXG_GreenxGold on social media and visit the official website at https://gxg.startupwaco.com.
