Shcherbinina Wins Fifth-Straight in Setback to Iowa State

The sophomore moved to 3-2 against ranked opponents this season
WACO, Texas – Sophomore Alina Shcherbinina picked up her third ranked win of the season on Sunday afternoon, despite Baylor women's tennis' 6-1 loss to No. 6 Iowa State.
The Bears (11-10, 2-4 Big 12) were edged in doubles action, as the Cyclones (13-3, 3-1 Big 12) won the point with 6-3 and 7-5 victories on court one and three, respectively.
Straight-set wins on No. 5 and No. 3 pushed Iowa State to match point, before a victory by the Cyclones on court No. 4 clinched the match for Iowa State.
After trailing 5-1 early in the opening frame, Shcherbinina clawed her way back to win it, 7-5. A 6-2 second-set victory gave Shcherbinina her fifth-straight singles win and third-ranked victory of the season. Two more singles wins by Iowa State gave the nationally-ranked Cyclones the match, 6-1.
Baylor returns to the road next weekend for a pair of matches at Texas Tech and TCU.
