We Will Treat One Another with Dignity and Respect

            Meeting each of the 100-plus track and cross country student-athlete "where they are," Baylor athletic trainer Sheree Colson "treats them all with dignity and respect."

            Lucy Reed, Director of Track & Field Operations, said she admires how Colson is "never afraid to stand up for what you believe is right, and you always put the student-athletes first, regardless of what is going on in their personal lives."

            "You always show up and fight for our student-athletes," Reed said of Colson. "You're never afraid to tell them what they need to hear, whether it's what they want to hear or they don't."

            Earning her undergrad and master's degrees from Baylor, Colson has worked with various sports since returning to her alma mater in June 2016.

            While student-athletes, coaches and parents "can sometimes be difficult," Colson has a way to maintain her composure "anytime you're rocked or disagree," said Carrie Rubertino-Shearer, Associate AD of Athletic Medicine.

            "You just agree as best you can, or smile and nod," Rubertino-Shearer said, "and you're able to maintain that relationship with somebody, as well as getting things done that you know need to happen.

            "I've watched you at CARE team meetings for five years now, navigate through hard cases. You're always speaking into it with clarity, and you're not letting emotions get involved. I think this is a great characteristic of somebody that works in this field and will help you to go on to do great things."

            In Colossians 3:12-13, it says: "As God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."

            Sheree, congratulations on your One Standard, One Accord award for treating others with dignity and respect.
