Baylor’s win marks the second-straight victory for the Bears
WACO, Texas – Baylor women's tennis (13-11) opened its three-match homestand with a 7-0 sweep of UTSA (12-9) at the Hurd Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
Liubov Kostenko and Danielle Tuhten teamed up for the first time this spring and completed the 6-0 sweep on No. 3 to start doubles play for the Bears. Baylor clinched the point with a 6-1 decision on No. 2 by Alina Shcherbinina and Brooke Thompson, who picked up their fourth victory in dual action.
Isabella Harvison, who is currently No. 95 in the ITA rankings, earned her 13th singles win of the season, helping the Bears take a 2-0 lead. Shcherbinina extended BU's advantage with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position, before Tuhten clinched the Bears' second-straight win on court five.
Daniella Dimitrov used a 6-2, 6-2 decision on No. 4 to push Baylor ahead, 5-0. Victories by Kostenko and Thompson at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively, sealed the 7-0 sweep for the Bears.
"Today was a great team win," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "I'm really proud of the girls. They stayed in the moment really well and they're doing some of the hard things. It's not easy to win a match 7-0. They did a great job staying focused and staying on task. We have another one tomorrow, so we just have to be ready."
Baylor will continue its three-match home swing on Sunday, taking on New Mexico State at 4 p.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center.
