Skinner is a hopeful for the final 14-woman roster
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Volleyball released its 30-player Women's National Team roster for the 2023 Volleyball Nationals League, naming Baylor volleyball alumna Avery Skinner to the list.
Skinner, who played her fifth year of eligibility with the Bears in 2021, joins a list of 30 for the preliminary roster for the Women's VNL.
VNL is the world's premier annual international indoor volleyball tournament, the Final Round hosted this year at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, on July 12-16. Hosting on U.S. soil means that USA Volleyball automatically qualifies. The top 16 teams in the world play four matches a week for three weeks of preliminary competition, with the top eight teams advancing to the final round. The preliminary competition begins in Antalya, Turkey, on May 31.
Fourteen of the initial 30 women on the roster will be selected to travel to each week's preliminary-round matches. The full 30-woman roster can be found here.
Skinner joins two other outside hitter newcomers on the roster and is one of 10 newcomers overall. There are 12 players who have previous VNL experience and eight Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalists.
The squad is coached by three-time Olympian and three-time gold medalist head coach Karch Kiraly, who has been head coach of the U.S. Women since 2013.
The U.S. Women are the reigning Olympic champions and are ranked No. 4 in the world currently. They have won the VNL three times, in 2018, 2019 and 2021, since its inception in 2018.
All VNL matches will be broadcast on volleyballworld.tv.
