Anthony Travel’s Welch is a ‘director of operations’ dream’
By Jerry HillBaylor Bear Insider
Trying to handle the flood of travel requests from Baylor coaches and staff, it's easy to get wore down and frustrated.
But that's not the case for Madeline Welch, account manager with Anthony Travel. She is a shining example of the Galatians 6:9 verse: "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Katie Smith, Director of Business Operations for Baylor Athletics, said that verse fits Madeline "to a tee."
"You show up day in and day out in a job that's extremely demanding, people always wanting our Anthony Travel agents to move quicker, to make travel changes," Smith said. "And you not only service our coaches and student-athletes so well and so efficiently, you also do it the right way and ask questions along the way and you slow things down when necessary."
Working specifically with women's basketball, she was able to arrange team travel to Estero, Fla., Morgantown, W.Va., Ames, Iowa and Storrs, Conn.
"I feel so grateful to work alongside you here at Baylor," said Micah Odom, assistant director of women's basketball operations. "You operate with such a high level of care, and it so evident in everything you do, from your communication style and timeliness to the way you support our program by attending games throughout the season."
Michael Motta, Assistant AD for Women's Basketball Operations, said Madeline is "the ultimate professional."
"I appreciate your attention to detail, your work ethic and your overall positive attitude," Motta said. "You're a director of ops' dream to work with. I'm so excited that you're here in Waco, and we're looking forward to next season."
Graduating from Lipscomb University in 2019 with a degree in sports management, Madeline spent 2 ½ years at STARS Basketball Club in Nashville, Tenn., as assistant club director and head basketball coach before coming to Baylor in August 2022.
"We're so thankful for the example you set for everyone in Athletics," Smith said, "but also just the way that you're this servant-hearted leader, that it's never about you. It's always about Baylor and our student-athletes."
Congratulations, Madeline, on your One Standard, One Accord award for making all decisions in accordance with governing regulations.
